T20 world cup 2021 postponed

The driest period in The gentleman’s game is currently happening right now before our eyes. There has been absolutely no sort of international cricket being played for the last two months and a half.

The last time international cricket was not played for this long was during the World War II. That being said, the game of cricket is set to resume in another month or so hopefully with the West Indies tour of England expected to be first international cricket match post Covid-19 era.

Uncertainty of ICC events

So when normal services resume, fans and players will all be happy to participate in the game that brings joy to all. Then comes a feeling of uncertainty of how the conducting of ICC events would take place. The ICC board members meeting will almost certainly take the decision to postpone the upcoming ICC world T20 set to be held in Australia during October.

Then there’s a Women’s world cup scheduled for March 2021. There will be the postponed event of men’s World T20 to be held during 2021. The two major cricketing body’s namely BCCI and CA (Cricket Australia) are set to fight it out to earn the rights for hosting the mega event.

CA in a better position : CA Chairman

Cricket Australia’s chairman Earl Eddings has written to the ICC that the COVID-19 crisis has thankfully come under control in Australia. According to the Chairman Australia is in a ‘better position’ to host the event in 2021 as it will also give time for India to sort out the Covid-19 situation in their country.

In an interview with Times Now, he said

Australia has thankfully managed to ‘flatten the (Covid) curve’, meaning there is greater certainty of being able to play in Australia in 2021 (which is key to maintaining member distributions). This would give India another year to resolve any Covid-related problems
