The series should have been in India’s pocket by now if not for rain on the 5th day of 1st test. India are leading the series 2-1 after first 4 tests and a lot is at stake for England in the 5th test at Old Trafford. England would be disappointed after losing 2 games in the series which they should have saved but some brilliance from Indian bowlers saw England losing both the games.
The experienced wicket keeper batsman Jos Buttler was left out of the squad for the 4th test as he was expecting the birth of his second child. With England in precarious situation and with series on the line, they have recalled Jos Buttler for the 5th test. Here’s what the England captain Joe Root had to say about Jos Buttler.
He is the vice captain of this team. He is a senior player and he is integral to what we are about. I know his output in terms of runs in this series has not been as high as he would like or as we would like but we know what a great player he is and how important he can be to turning a Test match and that is the reason behind it.
It was because of rain that India haven’t won their first test series in England since 2007. India were in a commanding position at the end of day 4 in the 1st test but the rain was relentless on the 5th day which ensured that the game ended in a draw.
Now with series on the line, rain is predicted on 3 of the 5 match days in Old Trafford where the 5th test is scheduled to take place. England haven’t lost a 5 match test series in their home since 2008 and there is a lot at stake for them in the 5th test.
