RCB Captain for IPL 2022: In a massive breaking news, Faf du Plessis has been announced as the brand new Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). During this year’s IPL 2022 mega auction, RCB bought du Plessis for a price worth INR 7 Crore. Amidst the previous season of the Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli announced his decision to step down as the RCB captain from the end of IPL 2021.

During the much-hyped Royal Challengers Bangalore Unboxing Event in Bengaluru, Faf du Plessis was named the captain for the upcoming season of the IPL. The former South African skipper was the second highest run-getter during Indian Premier League 2021 where he smashed a remarkable tally of 633 runs from as many as 16 matches at a strike-rate of close to 140 that included a total of 6 fifties. In his overall IPL career, Faf has amassed close to 3000 runs in 93 innings at a strike-rate of 131.09 that comprises of 22 half-centuries.

Incidentally, this will be the first time when Faf du Plessis will be captaining in the Indian Premier League but has done well as a leader for South Africa across the three formats of the game. The RCB team management will surely be hoping that a new captain in du Plessis ends their 15-year title drought in the cash-rich T20 league. Royal Challengers Bangalore will kickstart their IPL 2022 campaign against Punjab Kings on 27 March at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.

IPL 2022 Start Date: RCB Strongest Playing 11

With some important changes and some fresh buys in the IPL 2022 auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore are most likely to open the batting with the pair of Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis. In an important update, Glenn Maxwell who was a star performer last year is likely to miss the first few matches this season due to his marriage. Anuj Rawat will have to bat at the No.3 position in the absence of Maxwell alongside the likes of Mahipal Lomror, Dinesh Karthik and Sherfane Rutherford in the middle-order.

Shahbaz Ahmed and Wanindu Hasaranga will be the two all-rounders. Josh Hazlewood, Harshal Patel and Mohammed Siraj will comprise of the pace bowling attack for RCB at the start of IPL 2022.
