The Rajasthan Royals have been an average franchise in the Indian Premier League. After winning the first season of the IPL, they have not produced any striking performances in the tournament. Until 2021, the team did not have any player as their regular captain, and there were many changes done to the core squad, with few of them getting retired as well. Like it is observed in the MI and CSK franchise, they have a fixed set of players and the captain for many years and have been the most successful in the tournament.


Sanju Samson IPL Salary

The Rajasthan Royals franchise have employed different strategies ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. They have taken a long term view and have retained their leading run scorer of IPL 2021 and the experienced player Sanju Samson for a whooping price of INR 14 Crores. It is expected that Sanju Samson will be the captain of the franchise until the next mega auction. Sanju scored 484 runs in 14 matches of IPL 2021, including 1 hundred.

The auction rules states that if the franchise need to retain four players, the first player gets the amount of 16 Crores, but the Kerala player has agreed to an amount of 14 Crores, which will be his IPL salary as well for single season.


IPL 2022 Retention: Other 3 Players who can be retained by RR

The franchise is expected to choose 3 players from the list of Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. According the the auction rules, the maximum of 4 players can be retained, with 2 overseas players as the limit. The combination can be 2 overseas and 2 Indian, or 3 Indian and 1 overseas. The franchise is expected to go with the 1st option, as they had quality players from England.

The fast bowler Jofra Archer was player of the tournament in the 2020 season, while Jos Buttler was terrific in the T20 World Cup 2021. The batting all rounder Liam Livingstone could not play well for Royals in 2021 season, but has been terrific in other tournaments. The fast bowling all rounder Ben Stokes is fit again and made himself available for Ashes. But it is expected that Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler, and Yashasvi Jaiswal are likely to be retained.
