IPL 2022 Schedule: The Indian Premier League 2022 season will kickstart from 26 March. The developments have been fast with the season approaching.  In a latest news, the Indian Premier League 2022 will follow round robin format after the introduction of 2 new teams from this season. Here is the latest update about the Schedule and Groups.

IPL 2022 Schedule

The 2 Groups have been announced for the Indian Premier League 2022 season. The arch rivals Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are in different groups. In the round robin format, each team will play other teams of the same group twice in the same row. While each will play against the teams in the different group once in the tournament. A total of 74 matches will be played in the season, with the final scheduled on May 29. Here is the complete details about the teams in two groups.

For example, Mumbai Indians will play against KKR, RR, DC, LSG twice, and will be up against CSK, SRH, RCB, PBKS, GT for a single time.

The same format was used in 2011 edition, where Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala were part of the 10 team tournament. Each team in the respective groups will play 4 fixtures each at Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium, and 3 each in Brabourne Stadium and MCA Stadium, Pune. Thereby, the total matches allotted to each venue has been confirmed by BCCI to Cricbuzz.

IPL Start Date

The 2022 season of Indian Premier League has been confirmed to be entirely played in India due to decline in covid cases in the country. But, in view of the situation getting escalated quickly, only 4 neighboring venues were decided by the BCCI for conducting the IPL in a safe manner. The team will get transferred from hotel to stadiums/ practice grounds from bus, and no flights will be used during the whole season.

“The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will be played in a bio-secure environment at a single hub to avoid air travel which is considered as a major threat for the spread of COVID-19 infection, thereby affecting the players and the League/matches,” the BCCI explained.

As earlier reported, there were no decision on the venues of IPL 2022 playoffs. It certainly will be decided as the tournament reaches midway, looking at the covid situation in the country. If everything is on track, Ahmedabad is likely to be the venue for hosting the playoffs.
