Is Hardik Pandya's Test Cricket Career Over? "May Not Be Seen For A Long While" - Aakash Chopra

Hardik Pandya’s Test CricketHardik Pandya’s omission from the Indian Test Cricket squad for the World Test Championship has once again turned the attention back on the player’s immediate future in the test team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday named a strong 20-man squad for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand and the subsequent Test series against England and one big-name player, Hardik Pandya, was missing from the roster. Fans can’t still get around why the 27-year-old wasn’t picked up for the England tour despite the pitches there historically supporting seam bowlers like Pandya.

Is Hardik Pandya’s Test Cricket Career Over?

As per reports, selectors overlooked Hardik Pandya due to the fact that the Mumbai Indians all-rounder still has some issues with his back that prevents him to bear the burden of bowling long spells in Test Cricket. Pandya has bowled sporadically in white-ball cricket, for both his IPL franchise MI and Indian team, but the test cricket is way too demanding for his fragile back at the moment.

“One thing is certain that if he is not there in the WTC final, it’s fine but if his name is not there even for the five Tests against England, it’s clear that Hardik Pandya may not be seen in Test cricket for a long while,” Chopra was quoted as saying.

Chopra added that Hardik Pandya’s skill-set is suited for more conditions in England, South Africa and Down Under.

“We all felt Hardik Pandya’s name will surely be there. It is obvious that if he has to play Test cricket anywhere then England, South Africa and Australia are the places where you will need Hardik Pandya the medium pacer,” said Chopra.

The back injury has dragged Hardik Pandya‘s career back, no doubt about that. He is a premium all-rounder, perhaps the best in India at full fitness. He adds depth in both batting and bowling.
