Andre Russell came into the second leg of IPL after a brilliant CPL for Jamaica Tallawahs. KKR were in a precarious situation coming into the second leg as had only 2 wins but after back to back wins against MI and RCB in second leg, they are in much better situation at the moment.
They copped a huge blow in their defeat to Chennai Super Kings when Andre Russell pulled off his hamstring while fielding at deep mid wicket and left the field without completing his full quota of four overs.
The KKR mentor in David Hussey hopes that the star all rounder is fit in time for their all important clash against the table toppers Delhi Capitals. Andre Russell is an injury prone player but it was evident that he has worked hard on his fitness in the last 6 months which shows in his shape. He has toned down a bit and looks much fitter than what he was a year ago and this injury couldn’t have come at a worse time than this with WT20 less than a month away. Here’s what David Hussey had to say about Andre Russell’s availability.
He said he felt something pop in his leg, his hamstring. We’ve got the best medical staff in the business so they’ll tend to him and hopefully it’s nothing too serious, because he’s a key part of our team. He’s been playing very very nicely with the bat, the ball, and in the field. So hopefully nothing too serious and he can come back and light the competition up like we know Andre Russell can do.
KKR lost their previous game to CSK which they could have won. They need to win all of their remaining matches to qualify for the playoffs and the way Eoin Morgan has used his resources so far has been top notch except for that move to bowl Prasidh Krishna in the 19th over against CSK.
It will be a huge task for Delhi Capitals to stop the red hot KKR here in Sharjah where the wicket is expected to be difficult for batting.
