Who won today’s IPL match?: The 14th match of the IPL 2022 saw Kolkata Knight Riders taking on Mumbai Indians at MCA Stadium in Pune. The match was in the Rohit Sharma-led side’s hand or majority of the time. But it was Pat Cummins’ show with the bat as he equalled record for the fastest fifty in IPL and won the match for his side by 5 wickets and take them to top spot on points table.

Asked to bat first, Mumbai Indians batsmen struggled with their timing and lost skipper Rohit Sharma early in the third over for just 3 runs. Debutant Dewald Brevis then set the stage on his fire with his cameo of 29 runs. MI found themselves in trouble when they lost Ishan Kishan (14) later and were reduced at 55/3. After that Suryakumar Yadav and young Tilak Varma the former a formidable partnership and took KKR bowlers to cleaners. Kieron Pollard then smashed 22 runs in the 5 balls to help his side post a total of 161 runs on the board.

Chasing the target, KKR started off decently but Tymal Mills and Daniel Sams made sure that they keep their side on top in power play by removing Ajinkya Rahane (7) and Shreyas Iyer (10). Sam Billings then showed positive intent but fell to Murugan Ashwin, who also sent back Nitish Rana to leave KKR tumbling at 83/4. Andre Russell came out all guns blazing but his stay at the crease was cut short by Tymal Mills, who removed him for 11 runs. Venkatesh Iyer, who opened the batting, scored a fighting half century to keep his side in the game. Pat Cummins then changed the game towards KKR with his brutal hitting abilities and equalled KL Rahul’s record of fastest fifty in the IPL (15 balls) and ended the game for his side with 4 overs to spare.

Not with bowling, Cummins this time changed the game for his side with the bat. Coming to bat, after the wicket of Andre Russell, the Australian Test batsman turned the game towards his side with his hitting abilities. He scored unbeaten 56 runs in 15 balls and smashed 35 runs in the 16th over to take his side home with 4 overs to spare. Apart from this, he also took 2 wickets with the ball.
