The encounter between India and New Zealand have become quite interesting due to the competitiveness of both the teams. The 1st Test at Kanpur has demanded the skills of the players to adapt to the test format after playing T20 matches for the past 2 months. But, the test specialists have made the team’s transition easier and thereby improving their team’s performances.


New Zealand Advantage in 1st Test

The New Zealand team have been impressive with the performances in their first fixture against India.  After batting well in the first innings, they have maintained the pressure with the ball in the 2nd innings. They have managed to pick 5 wickets of the opposition, with Jamieson picking first 2, while Ajaz Patel picked 1, and Tim Southee with another 2.

The line lengths of the New Zealand pacers, Southee and Jamieson have been accurate in this innings, and their ability to swing the new ball has also helped the team’s cause. While the spinner Ajaz Patel took the big wicket of Ajinkya Rahane, by getting him leg before the wicket in a straight delivery. It was the New Zealand’s session, where they were quite perfect with their executions.


Can India stitch partnership to save Test match?

The Indian team have displayed average performances in the first session of Day 4. After losing the wicket of Shubman Gill. in the last session on Day 3, the players like Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar departed with double digit scores. Then Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja could not contribute to keep the momentum.

At the end of Session 1, the players like Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin have been cautious with their approach and are batting on 18* and 20* respectively and have to keep continuing to keep putting pressure on the New Zealand bowlers. The next batter will be Saha, who did not take the field yesterday due to stiff neck, and others will be the bowlers. So the current pair will be critical for the team to save the test match.
