After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma revealed that senior player Kieron Pollard continues to miss out on selection for the second game in a row. During the previous game against Chennai Super Kings, Rohit revealed that Pollard himself asked the team management to drop him and try out some young players in the remaining matches. The former West Indies captain did not witness the best of forms with the bat in IPL 2022 so far having scored just 144 runs from 11 games at a poor strike-rate of less than 110.

“We’re going to field first. Just want to try out some things, and it works when we have a score in front of us. We have two changes: the spinners from the last game go out, Mayank Markande and Sanjay Yadav come in. We want to look at certain players with an eye on next year. We want to have a look at them before making a decision for next year. It is important that the core group plays. We want to keep certain aspects of our Mumbai team. We have one more game after this, and we can try a few more guys in that game,” said Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma during the toss.
