The rising cases of covid have struck the country hard and there have been many casualties happening each day that have become beyond the control of health infrastructure. Even with the bio-bubble restrictions by the BCCI and IPL organizers, players and team staff have been found positive. Today, 3 members of CSK team staff tested positive, while two KKR players, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier testes positive. Due to these cases, the match between KKR and RCB was postponed and the KKR team will undergo hard isolation for 4 days to make sure the play against Delhi Capitals on May 8.
Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Night Riders have already had a tough start to the tournament, and now two only Bangladesh players, Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman, who are playing the IPL, want to leave the tournament earlier than expected, which was May 19. Rajasthan has already suffered from big blows, while their players have left midway due to bubble issues. Now, if Mustafizur leaves, then RR will be back to just four overseas players and will lose one potential overseas pacer, who has grabbed 8 wickets in just 7 matches. Whereas Shakib has played 3 games in this season, and he’s going would not really affect the Knights, as they have Ben Cutting & Lockie Ferguson in their squad, who can bat & bow as well. BCB has stated that, if the government increases the days of quarantine to 7 or 14, they will have to come back earlier.
The BCB chief Nizamuddin Chowdhury spoke about Shakib Al Hasan and Mustfizur Rahman today.
“We have asked them (Shakib and Mustafizur) to let us know what is their plan for the next 15 days while we have also asked the health ministry to know what kind of quarantine protocol the two players will need to follow. If the health ministry suggests that they will have to follow seven or 14 days quarantine, they will have to return earlier than scheduled from IPL. But before that, we have to know what rules will be in place for them. We are bound by the Bangladesh Government rules, and will take decisions according to the guideline provided by the government,” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury as quoted by Cricbuzz.
The all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan helped the KKR team to win the title in 2014. Then, he featured for Sunrisers for few years, and then he was bought by KKR this year. In 66 matches, he has scored 784 runs and scalped 61 wickets.
While, Mustfizur Rahman has featured for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, and he was bought by the Rajasthan Royals this year. In 31 matches, he has picked 32 wickets.
