In the 1st Test of a tour to New Zealand 2022, South Africa team faced a huge loss by an innings and 276 runs. The team displayed disappointing performances in both the departments and are expected to make changes for the 2nd Test. But, here is the latest update about the South African pacer, who was likely to be included in the 11 for the next fixture of the series.
The right arm tall pacer, who was instrumental in the Proteas 2-1 series win over the Indian team earlier in the year was expected to be feature in the 2nd Test against New Zealand. He would have bolstered the bowling attack of the South Africa team by partnering with Kagiso Rabada to help the team in making a comeback in the series. But, the captain Dean Elgar has spoken on the availability of the pacer for the 2nd Test.
“Because he hasn’t been able to bowl last week, I don’t think his bowling loads are up to the standard of preparing for Test matches,” captain Dean Elgar told reporters.
“He hasn’t been training with us, he’s only been bowling off a short run-up, which has been a bit of a setback for us.
“We know Lungi’s been a key figure within our bowling line-up. So it’s a bit disappointing that he’s in the situation that he’s in now.”
From the statements of Dean Elgar, it is confirmed that Lungi Ngidi will not be a part of the 2nd Test due to his injury issues.
The South Africa team are expected to make couple of changes in their Playing 11 for the 2nd Test. The team is likely to retain their experienced players. While the likes of Glenton Stuurman and Sarel Erwee/ Zubayr Hamza are expected to be dropped from the Playing 11.
If the team opts to play with a specialist spinner, Keshav Maharaj can be part of the team. While Wiaan Mulder or Lutho Sipamla can replace fast bowler Glenton Stuurman.
