SA vs IND 2021: In a massive breaking news, India’s newly appointed full-time ODI captain Rohit Sharma will reportedly miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa. Rohit was already ruled out of the ongoing three-match Test series due to a left hamstring injury that he sustained during the training session ahead of the South Africa tour. Team India is scheduled to play three ODI matches in South Africa on 19, 21 and 23 January, 2022 respectively.

According to a recent report by Sports Tak, Rohit Sharma has still not recovered completely from the left hamstring injury and thus, he will miss the ODIs against South Africa starting next month. In his absence, the national selectors are very much likely to name KL Rahul as the ODI captain for the three-match series against the Proteas. It is also being understood that Rishabh Pant will be named as the ODI vice-captain. The selection committee led by chief selector Chetan Sharma is likely to announce the India ODI squad for the South Africa tour after the conclusion of the ongoing first Test match in Centurion.

It is also being learnt that senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is expected to make his return into the India ODI squad for the upcoming series in South Africa. In the absence of Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel due to their respective injury issues, Ashwin who last played an ODI match in 2017, is the frontrunner to make a comeback. Also, after outstanding performances with the bat in the recently concluded edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, the duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Venkatesh Iyer are also certain to be included in the ODI team for South Africa tour.

While talking about the ongoing first Test match between South Africa and India at the SuperSport Park in Centurion, Day 2’s play was forced to be called off early due to persistent rain and a single ball was not bowled in the entire day. However, India finished the opening day of the Test match in a commanding position at 272 for 3 with opener KL Rahul notching up a fabulous hundred and remained unbeaten on 122 while Ajinkya Rahane was also looking in a fine touch at 40 not out.
