SA vs IND 2021: Amidst the ongoing controversy in the Indian cricket team, it has now been confirmed that Virat Kohli will be playing the three-match ODI series against South Africa starting in January 2022. Team India is scheduled to tour South Africa later this month where they will play 3 Test matches and 3 ODIs starting with the Boxing Day Test match from 26 December in Centurion. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reported cleared the air regarding Kohli’s availability for the ODI series.
Since Rohit Sharma pulled out from the three-match Test series due to hamstring injury, there have been a lot of reports doing the rounds that India’s Test captain Virat Kohli might miss the South Africa ODIs. However, in a report mentioned by Cricbuzz, a top BCCI official has confirmed that all the news of Kohli not being available for the three-match ODI series is completely false and former white-ball captain will definitely participate in the limited-overs matches. The BCCI official noted that Kohli is surely a committed cricketer while confirming his availability.
“There is no truth in reports of Virat skipping the ODIs,” a top BCCI official was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.“He is a totally committed cricketer and there is no doubt about his participation,” he added.

Before leaving for South Africa, Virat Kohli will address the media through a virtual press conference in Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon. On the other hand, there is still no confirmation on the availability of newly appointed ODI captain Rohit Sharma for the limited-overs series against South Africa. The BCCI is also yet to announce a new vice-captain for the Proteas Test series after Rohit getting ruled out.
If Rohit Sharma will not be available for the ODI matches, it will be really interesting to see who gets appointed as the stand-in captain for the three white-ball games in South Africa scheduled on 19, 21 and 23 January 2022 respectively.
