AUS vs ENG: Possible England Playing 11 for 2nd Ashes Test

Share

England Playing 11: England were handed a heavy defeat by the hosts, Australia in the first Ashes Test of the summer. The visitors will now look to bounce back in Brisbane, after being humbled in the opener. It will be interesting to see as to how England go about making changes to their side for the second Test.

England head coach, Chris Silverwood has hinted that James Anderson and Stuart Broad might be drafted into the playing 11 after missing out at the Gabba. As for the batting order, things are likely to be kept unchanged.

2nd Ashes Test Team News

  • James Anderson and Stuart Broad are both expected to return to the playing 11. As a result, Jack Leach and Chris Woakes could be the ones who make way for the duo.
  • England might just be tempted to play without a leading spinner in the second Test, given how ineffective Jack Leach was at the Gabba.
  • Ollie Robinson will most likely keep his spot, which means that either Chris Woakes or Mark Wood could drop out.
  • Ben Stokes, who returned after a huge gap away from cricket, was nowhere close to his best at the Gabba. He will hope to find some form in the day-night Test in Brisbane.
  • Haseeb Hameed, Rory Burns and Dawid Malan will form the top order for the visitors, with Joe Root coming in at number four.

ENG Playing 11 (likely)

Rory Burns had two poor outings in the first Test, and the pressure will be on him to deliver in Brisbane. He will open the batting alongside Haseeb Hameed, who squandered away two decent starts. Dawid Malan and Joe Root stitched a wonderful partnership in the second innings, which brought back the visitors back in the game, atleast momentarily.

Ollie Pope and Ben Stokes will bat at number five and six respectively. Jos Buttler also had two decent starts in the first Test, and will come in at number seven. England are expected to play four pacers at Brisbane, which includes James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Ollie Robinson and a toss-up between Mark Wood and Chris Woakes.
