If the recent reports are to be believed, off-spinner Washington Sundar will have to delay his comeback to international after being sidelined with a finger injury since the previous England tour in July 2021. A Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office-bearer has confirmed that Sundar recently tested positive for Covid-19 and he will not travel to Cape Town from Mumbai along with the rest of the members of the Indian ODI squad.

It is being understood that Washington Sundar is currently on the verge of finishing his week-long isolation period and the BCCI is still trying to figure out a possible way through which the Tamil Nadu cricketer can join the rest of the national squad in South Africa. He is currently in Bengaluru where he was training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) with the other members of the limited-overs squad who have all tested negative. Sundar last played for India in March 2021 against England, but performed impressively well for Tamil Nadu on his comeback in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy.
