The Sri Lanka team have dealt with injury concerns and covid related issues in the last 2 bilateral series. Their key players have missed these series and an opportunity to help the Sri Lanka team to prosper in international cricket. The latest update would disappoint the Sri Lanka fans as the team speeds up their preparation for the 2nd Test.
In a major blow to Sri Lanka team, the top order batsman Pathum Nissanka has been ruled out ahead of the 2nd Test scheduled to be played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru from 12 March. He sustained the back injury during the training session on March 10, and scans have revealed the serious concerns revolving around the key player of the Sri Lanka team. Here is what Dimuth Karunaratne said on the injury of Pathum Nissanka.
“The [Sri Lanka team] medical panel has told us that we have to manage his injury till the T20 World Cup, and that he should be used (only) for white-ball cricket,” Karunaratne said.
Pathum was the top scorer for the Sri Lanka team in the 1st innings of the 1st Test at Mohali with the contribution of 61 runs, and will be tough to fill his boots in the 11. While Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara are also said to be still recovering from injury and will not be available for the Day Night Test at Bengaluru.
With the unavailability of players like Pathum Nissanka, Lahiru Kumara, and Dushmantha Chameera for 2nd Test, here is the predicted Playing 11 of the Sri Lanka team.
