SL vs PAK: A masterclass from Bhanuka Rajapaksa

It is a well known fact that toss has played the most important role in this Asia cup. This is no different to previous year’s WT20 where the team that won the toss went on to win the game. The pattern continued throughout the tournament except for some odd games.

Sri Lanka lost the crucial toss in the final and was asked to bat first. Sri Lankan batsmen were put under pressure with some extraordinary bowling by the Pakistani fast bowlers.

Sri Lanka came back strongly with 2 fifty run partnerships for the 6th and 7th wicket. Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Wanindu Hasaranga brought out their best and thrashed Pakistan bowlers to take Sri Lanka to a competitive total of 170. Pakistan dropped some crucial catches and their ground fielding was sloppy as well. The pressure of the final got to them. Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored a scintillating 71 off 45 balls including 6 boundaries and 3 maximums.

Sri Lanka beat Pakistan to lift their 6th Asia cup title

Sri Lankan bowlers didn’t allow Pakistan to score runs at a quick pace right from the beginning of the innings. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam’s horrible Asia cup ended with him flicking a ball down the leg straight into the hands of short fine leg fielder. Pakistani batsmen didn’t take any risks in the middle overs and dug themselves a hole, and when they tried to accelerate, they kept losing wickets, in the end, losing the game by 23 runs.

Highest score for India in each format

It was an excellent bowling display by the Sri Lankans and the fact that they successfully defended a target under difficult circumstances makes them a deserving champions of Asia cup 2022.
