After winning the first T20I by 38 runs, Team India is taking on Sri Lanka in the second match at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium, Colombo. The start of the second match saw a series of events as all-rounder Krunal was Pandya tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of the match, which forced BCCI to reschedule the second game of the series by 24 hours.

The coronavirus outbreak in the Indian contingent forced Team India to hand debut caps to Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Rana, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Chetan Sakariya. The visitors stepped into the field with six bowlers and five batsmen due to the unavailability of another batsman.

With only five batsmen in the side, Team India struggled with the bat in the second T20I as they posted a total of just 132 runs from their 20 overs. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan top scored with 40 runs while other batsmen failed to cross the 30-run mark.

During Sri Lanka’s chase Rahul Chahar, after taking a sensational catch, was once again in the headlines as he gave an angry send-off to Wanindu Hasaranga after taking his wicket. Just a delivery before the hosts’ batsman smashed the leg-spinner for six. However, on the very next ball Chahar deceived the the batsman in the flight and Hasaranga could only get a leading edge to Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the short point.

In the video Rahul Chahar can be seen pumped up after taking the wicket and Wanindu Hasaranga instead of replying angrily, smiled sarcastically and applauded the bowler for deceiving him.

Asked to bat first, COVID-19 restricted Team India displayed a poor batting performance and posted a total of just 132 runs against Sri Lanka. The Shikhar Dhawan-led side struggled against the spin and as hosts’ bowlers capitalised on India’s predicament of having only five specialist batters.

Chasing the target, Sri Lanka did lose 6 wickets, but Dhananjaya de Silva anchored the innings in and cool and composed manner and scored unbeaten 40 runs. Crucial contributions by Wanindu Hasaranga and Chamika Karunaratne made sure that Sri Lanka ends the match on the winning note and levels the series 1-1. The third and final T20I will take place on 29th July at the same venue.
