Vijay Shankar on Ambati Rayudu’s ‘3D’ tweet: After making it to the Indian team’s playing XI in the 2019 World Cup, things have been really tough for Vijay Shankar. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder was a significant member of India’s limited-overs team a couple of years ago. He was selected in the India squad for the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales ahead of Ambati Rayudu, but he managed to play just 3 games before getting ruled out for the entire tournament due to a toe injury.
Vijay Shankar gives perfect reply to Ambati Rayudu’s ‘3D’ tweet
During a recent interview, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) all-rounder Vijay Shankar voiced his opinion on a lot issues including the infamous Rayudu’s ‘3D’ tweet. Incidentally, Shankar was selected in India’s World Cup 2019 squad ahead of Ambati Rayudu who was expected to take the number four spot in the batting line-up. After being ignored from the World Cup squad, Rayudu posted a harsh tweet saying, “Just Ordered a new set of 3d glasses to watch the world cup.”
Vijay Shankar faced a lot of flak on the social media since that incident. Even during his recent poor performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season, the social media overflowed by terming him as a ‘3D’ player in flak.
“I have no connection to that. They gave me a tag randomly and made it viral. But after that tweet, I played three games for India (World Cup) and did decently. I didn’t do anything bad. Even in the IPL, my batting orders have been different. A lot of people compare me to Rayudu, but the batting orders and conditions we play in are different.
“It’s okay to even compare, but at least see which slots we’re batting in. A lot of people don’t know that. They don’t see that, and they just want to enjoy in social media at my expense,” Vijay Shankar said in an conversation with News18.
“There’s no personal issue with Ambati Rayudu,” says Vijay Shankar
Despite a massive dearth of fast bowling all-rounders in the set up, Shankar hasn’t been considered for selection in the India squad since the 2019 World Cup. However, the right-hander clearly stated that there are absolutely no personal issues between him and Rayudu. He also mentioned that he had a great conversation with the Chennai Super Kings batsman when the duo met recently in Delhi.
“We talk well when we meet. There’s no personal issue between us. It just so happened that his tweet became viral. I definitely don’t have any grudge against Rayudu. Even when I met him recently in Delhi, we had a super conversation,” Shankar concluded.
