The IPL Auction which took place on 18 February in Chennai attracted good traction from Indians as well as the overseas cricket-watching audience. Chris Morris became the most expensive player in IPL history and was bought by Rajasthan Royals. While other big-money players like Maxwell and Jamieson will play for RCB. The known players, Harbhajan, Cutting, and Karun Nair were unsold at the first round, but KKR got all of them at a cheap price at the end. Jhye Richardson and Daniel Christian, who were the standout performers in the BBL 2020/21 were bought by Punjab and Bangalore respectively. Arjun Tendulkar was picked at his price by Mumbai Indians.

While Jason Roy and Aaron Finch went unsold. The batsman Glenn Phillips who scored the fastest T20I hundred for New Zealand this year could not attract any bids. The players like Alex Hales and Evin who are known for their hitting at the top-order were one of the most shocking things from the auction. While the experienced players like Matthew Wade and Ben McDermott were not rewarded for their terrific performances in the international and BBL respectively.

A funny moment happened in the IPL 2021 Auction when Punjab Kings owner Preity Zinta tells SRK’s son Aryan Khan that the franchise picked Shahrukh Khan for this season. The middle-order batsman, Shahrukh Khan was in a news recently when he helped the Tamil Nadu team to win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

After IPL Auction, Strongest Playing XI

Almost all the teams bought a good set of players in the Auction who will help them to clinch the trophy this year. With the inclusion of Maxwell and Jamieson, the RCB team has sought to take care of their finisher and bowler role. But the team which has standout-performers in their squad is Punjab Kings. The Punjab franchise already has Chris Gayle and KL Rahul at the top-order, while Pooran to steady the team’s ship. In the latest inclusion, the team has got a stable batsman like Dawid Malan and BBL star bowlers like Richardson and Meredith.
