Matheesha Pathirana Bowling Action: In a massive moment, Sri Lanka’s young pace bowler Matheesha Pathirana is making his debut for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the today Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) match against Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Chennai Super Kings surprised everyone when they roped in Pathirana as a replacement player for the injured speedster Adam Milne.
Chennai Super Kings debutant Matheesha Pathirana was all over the internet when he was identified to have a similar bowling action that of legendary Sri Lanka pace bowler Lasith Malinga. Pathirana was part of the Sri Lanka side during the recently concluded ICC Under 19 World Cup where he ended up picking as many as 7 wickets at an impressive economy rate of less than 7. The right-arm Lanka fast bowler has played just 2 T20 matches at this moment picking two wickets at an economy of 8.25.
Matheesha Pathirana is just 19 years old after being born on 18 December, 2002 in Kandy. Just like Malinga, the youngster also has the ability to bowl those late-tailing yorkers.

Sri Lanka’s right-arm speedster Matheesha Pathirana first caught the eyeballs in 2020 when he clocked an unbelievable bowling speed of 175 kmph, however, it was learnt afterwards that this happened due to a technical error. Pathirana has the ability to consistently bowl around 130-135 kmph as seen in domestic cricket.

The Chennai Super Kings picked Matheesha Pathirana at his base price of INR 20 Lakh as a replacement player for the injured Adam Milne.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, the Chennai Super Kings have posted a below-par total of 133 for 5 in their quota of 20 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 53 runs off 49 balls while N Jagadeesan remained unbeaten at 39 off 33 deliveries. For the Gujarat Titans, Mohammed Shami picked up two vital wickets.
