IPL 2021: Blow to RCB as Washington Sundar ruled out of the second leg in UAE

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have been a quite unlucky side in the Indian Premier League history. They have qualified for five times into the playoffs of the IPL, and have remained runner-ups for three times, 2009, 2011, and 2016. But, their performances in the IPL 2021 Phase 1 will keep the fans interested for what’s in store for Phase 2. The RCB team have 5 wins in 7 matches, are looking a balanced team. But, the recent news will disappoint the RCB fans as its consequence can be huge.

Washington Sundar Ruled out of IPL 2021 Phase 2

The bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar will not be available for the remaining games of the Indian Premier League 2021 Phase 2. Sundar sustained injury during the practice game ahead of India’s test series against England. He fractured his finger, while facing a ball of his RCB team-mate Mohammad Siraj and was out of the test series as well.

Here is the statement from RCB regarding the all-rounder,

“Royal Challengers Bangalore’s all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remainder of the Vivo IPL 2021 due to an impending finger injury. Akash Deep, a state cricketer from Bengal and net bowler with the franchise has been named as replacement. The move reiterates the focus RCB has on grooming and nurturing young players as the team continues to develop exceptional talents and create a pathway for young talents to find their way into IPL and Indian Cricket,” the RCB franchise said in an official statement.”

Who is the player replacing Washington Sundar?

The bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar has been replaced by Akash Deep who plays for Bengal State team. He is a consistent wicket-taker for the state team across all the formats and can be useful batter in the lower-order.

Akash Deep

He made his T20 debut in the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and has scalped  21 wickets at an economy rate of 6.67. He has the experience of being a net bowler of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2021 as well.
