Most 5 Wicket hauls in Test – 5-fer for bowlers what a century is for batsmen. And to be very precise, to get a five-wicket haul is never an easy task. Only legends of the game have managed to get five-fer multiple times. That itself makes it a herculean yet incredible feat.
1. M Muralidharan (67)
There’s no prize for guessing who the first name on this list is. It’s undoubtedly the spin wizard from Sri Lanka, Muttiah Muralidharan. He, who tops the bowling charts with 800 Test wickets has a record 67 five-wicket hauls in test cricket.
2. Shane Warne (37)
The second name on this list is also a no-brainer. It’s the spin magician from Australia, Shane Warne. Highly regarded as the best bowler of the last generation, he has taken 708 wickets in Test cricket which includes 37 five-wicket hauls.
3. Richard Hadlee (36)
The fast bowler who has the most number of 5 wicket hauls is the kiwi great Sir Richard Hadlee. Regarded as the greatest cricketer New Zealand has ever produced, he has taken 36 five-wicket hauls from just 86 matches. That itself speaks highly of the skillset that he possessed.
4. Anil Kumble (35)
10 wicket haul is the first thing that comes to our mind when we think about Anil Kumble. But the fact is he should not just be remembered for that one innings. He has plenty more achievements in his bag. He has 35 five-wicket hauls in Test cricket from just 132 matches.
5. Rangana Herath (34)
This is probably the most unlikely name on the list. He is one of the most underrated bowlers in the last decade and his records justify the same. In the post-Muralidharan era, he was the man to bank on for Sri Lanka in Test cricket.
