The T20 World Cup is just around the corner and there is enough excitement about the ICC mega-event. The teams like New Zealand, Australia, and Pakistan have announced their teams for the T20 World Cup. The tournament will be played in United Arab Emirates and Oman. The tournament will be played from October 17 to November 15, 2021, with a total of 45 matches. 16 teams will participate in this World Cup, with the host Nation, India, 9 full-member nations, and 6 teams have come through ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier.
The Indian team selectors will meet Virat Kohli and Shastri today through a video conference and finalize the team for the T20 World Cup 2021. The coach Ravi Shastri was found Covid positive and is currently isolating with mild symptoms. But it will be Shastri’s last international assignement and he is expected to take an active part in taking decisions. The BCCI top brasses, Sourav Ganguly and Amit Shah is also expected to be a part of the discussion.
After the finalization of squad, the selectors will announce the T20 World Cup India squad through a virtual media conference. The chairman of the 5-member selection committee is former India bowler Chetan Sharma. The media conference will be addressed by the chairman. Amid covid crisis, the Indian selectors can announce a 20-player touring party for the T20 World Cup. Normally, a 15-player squad is selected for any tournaments/series, but there are initial reports suggesting that the Team India squad will have 5 reserve players as well.
The International Council of Cricket keeps a cap of 30 members, inclusive of support staff and coaches. If this number is exceeded, the respective boards have to pay certain remunerations.
