AC Milan will be looking to win two consecutive games in Serie A for only the second time this season when they host Lazio at San Siro. Suso scored the only goal in AC Milan's 1-0 win over Spal in the midweek in what was Rossoneri's first league win in three games, while Lazio are one of the most in-form teams in Serie A having stretched its unbeaten run in the league to five games with a 4-0 thrashing of Torino.
No team in Italy even come closer to AC Milan's record of seven UEFA Champions League titles, while they have 18 Scudetto (a joint second-best record), and a huge number of other gongs inside their huge trophy cabinet. In a gist, AC Milan are the giants of world football, not just in Italy. Or are they?
Milan have been in the rut for quite some time now. Their current situation has gone so downhill that they are not even considered in the title race. But this seems the transition period every club has to go through once in a while. Look at Liverpool. They haven't been the champions of England in 30 years, despite dominating the English football in the 70s and 80s. Nottingham Forest and Leeds United seem to be hovering in the perennial transition loop for eternity, millions of light-years away from becoming the club they once were.
In the current context, Bayern Munich seemed have got a glitch, Manchester United are striving to become the force they used to be under Sir Alex Ferguson, while Everton are the Premier League version of Nottingham Forest and Leeds United.
But Bayern need one or two transfer window to end the current situation and United are too big a financial superpower to chart on Liverpool's course. What Milan need at the moment is a good and solid season. They need not look any further than their own league to understand that the top-four finish or the Champions League football can be achieved while working with a limited budget, just as Atalanta did last season, and Milan certainly have more muscles than Atalanta and Lazio.
As things stand in Serie A, Milan sit at 10th on the points table, a huge 8 points behind the top-four. But manager Stefano Pioli, who replaced Marco Giampaolo at Milan hot seat last month, will hope that the 1-0 win over SPAL will spark a turnaround for Milan.
Lazio will have their say though, for they come into this match high on confidence. They thrashed Torino 4-0 in the midweek and moved to 5th place on the points table.

AC Milan vs Lazio team news:
Mattia Caldara is still out as he recovers from the ligament injury, while Riccardo Rodriguez is out with a muscle problem.
Stefano Pioli made four changes to his playing 11 from the 2-1 defeat to AS Roma, naming Krzysztof Piatek, Leo Duarte, Ismael Bennacer and Samu Castillejo.
Pioli admitted after the game that he could make changes in the home game against Lazio, due to the congestion of fixtures which will see Milan play three games in seven days.
