Wake up, Ravi!- How Bhajji caught a sleepy Ravi Shastri

By Shalini Singh

Team India began their campaign against England in the longest format of the game in Birmingham on Wednesday.

Kohli-led side struggled to get wickets initially on the opening day of the first Test. This perhaps urged Shashtri to take a nap in the dressing room when players were battling it out on the field. Indian cricket team head coach Ravi Shastri fell asleep after Lunch on Day 1 at Edgbaston. The 56-year old was caught napping while Indian cricket team struggled to take scalps.

His action immediately promoted commentator and veteran Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh to troll him during commentary.

“Ravi Shastri is having a nap there. Wake up, Ravi!” Bhajji said as the commentators around him burst into a laugh.

Sanjay Bhangar, Team India batting coach who was spotted sitting next to Ravi Shastri, was wearing an earpiece and was listening to the commentary.

He soon received a request from Harbhajan Singh, “Sanjay, could you please convey my message to Ravi?”

Bangar started laughing and so did Ravi after he heard what Bhajji said. Twitter erupted to poke fun at Shastri as well.

Ravi Shastri was later seen joking with Singh and signalled that he was just trying to meditate after a heavy lunch.

Twitter Reactions:

England captain Joe Root won the Toss and opted to bat in the first Test of the five-match series against the visitors at Edgbaston.

“It seems to be a good surface. Some moisture which should burn off, it looks like a good surface to bat. The selectors gave us good options and I am happy with the squad we have,” Root said.

India, on the other hand, chose to leave out Cheteshwar Pujara and roped in Lokesh Rahul, who is currently in fine form.

Here are the playing XI of both the teams for the first Test match:

Virat Kohli (capt.), , Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik (wk),  Murali Vijay, Mohammed Shami, Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma.

Joe Root (capt.), Alastair Cook, Dawid Malan, Keaton Jennings, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Adil Rashid, Stuart Broad, James Anderson.
