Manimaran Siddharth or simply M Siddharth is counted amongst one of the most exciting young talents in India. The 22-year old spinner plays for the Tamil Nadu side in domestic cricket.

M Siddharth’s interest in cricket developed from his father, who used to play the game in Jakarta. His father later decided to move to India in a bid to make Manimaran a professional cricketer. The Tamil Nadu cricketer started as a fast bowler. However, given that he didn’t possess a lot of pace, his coach transformed him into a spin bowler.

He rose through the ranks quickly and soon found himself playing for the Tamil Nadu side in domestic cricket. He made his debut for Tamil Nadu in the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Playing his debut game in the T20 cricket competition, Siddharth claimed a four-for to help his side win against Mumbai by 9 wickets.

He took four big wickets of Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Siddhesh Lad. He followed it up with a 4/18 against Jharkhand, rattling the middle order by removing Sumit Kumar, Utkarsh Singh, Anukul Roy and Anand Singh. Later, he also plied his trade in the Tamil Nadu Premier League, where he picked 5 wickets in 7 matches.

Unfortunately, he didn’t get a game that season. Interestingly, Delhi Capitals have bought his services in 2021 IPL Auction. However, with Ashwin and Axar in prime form, you might see him warming the benches this time around as well.

Earlier His performances attracted a few IPL scouts. A couple of franchises were impressed with the young spinners’ variations. In a boost to his IPL ambitions, Manimaran was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for his base price of INR 20 Lakhs in the 2020 IPL auctions. He was left shocked when he got to know that he was bought by KKR.

“Honestly, I was very surprised (when I got picked in the auction). I didn’t expect it at all. All these years I have been dreaming of playing in the IPL. Playing with all the stars under a coach like Brendon McCullum, whom I have just seen on the TV, is a very special feeling.” Manimaran was quoted as saying on KKR’s official website.

“We had a Ranji Trophy match that day. We came back to the hotel at the end of the day and I was watching the auctions. But I didn’t watch my set of auctions as I had gone to take a bath. After getting out of the shower, I just thought of switching to a movie. I didn’t even know that my name came and I was picked by KKR. One of my teammates actually told me that I was picked.” He added.
