This hilarious incident occurred during the 4th Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Gabba in 2021. When offspinner Washington Sundar was bowling to Tim Paine, Rishabh said, “Aise web phenko web” (Throw a web like this). After that, he started singing the famous Indian song “Spiderman Spiderman” that was clearly audible from behind the stumps. This also became a viral meme later on.
Rishabh Pant’s ability was never a doubt. But whether he would take his natural game and succeed at the highest level, was the question. He made his first-class debut for Delhi and made loads of runs there. He has a strike rate of 84 and an average above 50 in first-class career. Pant also impressed in the IPL for Delhi which gave him an international debut in 2017. He struggled to carry his natural striking ability and got a no. of low scores.
But it was Test cricket in which Pant truly went a long way. He hit a six in just the second ball faced in Tests. Soon, Pant had a century in England and Australia making him the only Indian wicketkeeper to do so. He also played a pivotal role in India’s Test series win over Australia in 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Rishabh Pant is looked as a successor to the legendary MS Dhoni. Despite being under pressure, he has been able to improve his skills behind the stumps. With age on his side, he can play a huge role in the future of Indian cricket.
