Shan Masood Khan looks to be the most travelled cricketer from Pakistan in the current generation. He was born in Kuwait where his father was working in a bank. Soon after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the Gulf war, his family moved to their native Pakistan. Shan Masood then landed on English shores to pursue his education. He completed his schooling from Stamford School, Lincolnshire. Thereafter he went to Durham University to study Economics before studying Management and Sports Sciences through distance learning course of Loughborough University.
Shan Masood’s dream to become a professional cricketer for Pakistan prospered during his school days in England. In 2009, he was impressive in school-circuit cricket while playing for Stamford School. He made 1237 runs at an average of 103 with slamming various school records during that time.
Then he moved back to Pakistan and became regular in U15s and U19s national sides. He was much talked about after his flamboyant knock of 80 against Australia U19 in 2007. Soon after that knock, he was called by Karachi Knights and made his first-class debut in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in 2007. He played a critical role in the Habib Bank Cup triumph for Karachi in 2011.
Shan Masood’s consistent performances in domestic circuit earned him a national call-up when Pakistan hosted South Africa in UAE in the year of 2013. The challenge for him initially was to prove that he was selected on merit as his father was a member of the Board of Governors at the PCB during that time but he attracted all the good news with a beautiful knock of 75 runs on debut.
