Lovlina Borgohain is a professional boxer from Assam, India. She was born on 2 October 1997. She started her career as a kickboxer but later on switched to boxing. Lovlina fights in the 69kg Welterweight category. She is the first Assamese woman to qualify for the Olympics. In 2020, the Government of India awarded her the Arjuna Award. She is a huge fan of Muhammad Ali and Mary Kom.

Lovlina’s elder twin sisters were trained in martial arts. She took up combat sport Muay Thai at age 13 before a switch to boxing.
“After realising that the form of martial art we have been practicing is not a recognised Olympic sport, I decided to go for boxing.”
In her short career, she has done brilliantly in several tournaments. Lovlina is a two-time bronze medal winner at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships (2018 and 2019). She won a gold medal at the 1st India Open International Boxing Tournament held in New Delhi and a silver medal at the 2nd edition of the same tournament, held in Guwahati. She has also won two bronze medals at the Asian Championships (2017 and 2021).
Lovlina is a young boxer who has been rising through the ranks. She has secured a podium finish at this year’s Tokyo Olympics by winning the bronze. She had qualified for the games with a 5-0 win over Maftunakhon Melieva of Uzbekistan in the 2020 Asia & Oceania Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament.
On 27 July, Lovlina defeated Nadine Apetz from Germany in the round of 16. On 30 July, she overpowered Taiwan’s Chen Nien-chin, which guaranteed her a medal. She finally went down against top seed Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey in the semi-finals.
She won a bronze medal at 2020 Olympics in the Women’s welterweight event, becoming only the third Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics.

Lovlina’s house is located in the Bormukhia village of the Golaghat district in Assam. The unmetalled road to her house is under construction following her exploits at the Olympics.
