After having a rough patch, young players are helping Sri Lankan cricket to rise up in the ranks once again and Ramesh Mendis is among those young talented cricketers. Hailing from Ambalangoda, Mendis was born on 7th July 1995. The all-rounder started his career with Kandy in the year 2017-18. He came into the limelight in the Premier League Tournament (18-19), where he displayed his all-round skills. Mendis ended the tournament as the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker for Motor Sports Club with 612 runs and 30 wickets in just nine matches. On the back of his consistent domestic performances, Mendis was awarded a national call-up and made his debut in February this year. He was then also a part of the national side in the T20 World Cup.

Ramesh Mendis came into Sri Lanka set up in 2021. Before debuting for the country, the all-rounder played for many teams in domestic tournaments. He represented Dambulla, FOG-Seenigama, Moors Sports Club, Sri Lanka A, Sri Lanka emerging Team, Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club Kandy, Sinhalese Sports Club, Sri Lanka Board President’s XI and Sri Lanka U-19. Apart from these teams he played for Dambulla Viking in the Lanka Premier League.
