83 the film cast – It was a proud moment for the country, when the Indian Cricket team won 1983 World Cup. Ahead of the 1983 World Cup final, there was huge excitement in the country, as it was the first time that the national team reached this stage and the sales of TV and Radio sets peaked to know/see the latest happenings of the tournament happening in England.

1. Ranveer Singh – Kapil Dev

The man behind the famous victory of the Indian team was the captain Kapil Dev, who inspired the team with his belief and strong performances in both departments. He scored 303 runs and scalped 12 wickets, and also registered the record of scoring then highest individual score of 175* in ODI cricket.

The Bollywood top actor Ranveer Singh played the role of Kapil Dev. He was successful in depicting the emotions, dialogue delivery, and right tone of the captain.

2. Sunil Gavaskar – Tahir Bhasin

Sunil Gavaskar, also known as the Little Master, was famous for his batting against pacers. He has surely been a master of batting, and scored a massive tally of 10,122 runs in the test format. He has 34 centuries to his name. He scored 59 runs in the 1983 World Cup.

Tahir Raj Bhasin is an Indian actor, who has a masters degree in media from the University of Melbourne. He was born in Delhi and then moved to Mumbai to make a mark in his acting career.

3. Madan Lal – Harrdy Sandhu

Madan Lal, known as Maddi Paa in the 80s, bowled medium fast and had a good record in his career. He is also remembered for taking the wicket of Vivian Richards in the 1983 Word Cup Final game. In total, he took 17 wickets in the tournament.

Harrdy Sandhu played the role of Madan Lal, and surprisingly he has also played cricket for over a decade and has been a fast bowler for India in the U-19 World Cup in 2004. Harrdy is a singer and acts in film as well.

4. Mohinder Amarnath – Saqib Saleem

The all rounder Mohinder Amarnath took inspiration from his father (Lala Amarnath), who was also an Indian cricketer. He scored 237 runs and scalped 8 wickets in the 1983 World Cup. He helped the team to ace crunch moments with his wicket taking abilities, and reliable contribution at the top order. He himself was shown in few parts of the film, playing the role of Lala Amarnath.

The talented actor Saqib Saleem played the role of Mohinder Amarnath in the film, and it was quite easy for him as he played the role of cricketer in the film, Dishoom as well.

5. Krishnamachari Srikkanth – Jiiva

The swashbuckling opener K Srikkanth did the very hard task of facing the toughest bowlers, especially West Indies, who were at the peak of their career. In the tournament, he scored 156 runs, but his knock of 39 in the final provided impetus to the team in posting a respectable total on the board.

The Tamil actor and producer Jiiva essayed the role of Srikkanth, and his comic timing was perfect and was quite vocal with his views as of the cricketer himself.

6. Sandeep Patil – Chirag Patil

Sandeep Patil is a former Indian cricketer, who was a hard hitter in the middle order and casually bowled as well. He played less games, compared to others, but had a lightning career. He has been appointed to various high positions and has also been a coach for Kenya. In 1983 World Cup, he scored 216 runs.

Chirag Patil, who played the role of Sandeep, is actually the son of himself. Chirag has imitated his father in the film. He has appeared in many films and is a regular actor in Hindi and Marathi films.

7. Roger Binny – Nishant Dahiya

Binny was the leading wicket taker of the Indian team in the 1983 World Cup with 18 scalps and an economy of 3.81. In between the World cup, he was going through a rough patch, but the talented bowler displayed his fine skills in the later part of the tournament and was one of the architects to win the World Cup.

Nishant Dahiya, who has worked on small budget films before was trusted to play the role of Roger Binny. He was impressive with his English speaking accent in the 1983 Film.

8. Yashpal Sharma – Jatin Sarna

One of the finest batters of the Indian team in the tournament took up the pressure and scored runs in crucial situations. He scored a match winning 61 in the semi final match against England. In total, Yashpal Sharma amassed 240 runs at an average of 34.28.

Jatin Sarna, who has been quite popular in social media due to his role in web series Sacred Games, played the role of Yashpal Sharma in a terrific manner, and was equally good in emotional and comedy sequences, with good command over Punjabi language.

9. Balwinder Sandhu – Ammy Virk

The unsung hero of the World Cup has not been rewarded for his fine performance. In the tournament, Balwinder bagged 8 wickets and performed his best in the Finals. He picked up important wickets of Greenidge and Dujon, who had the capacity to take the game away from the team, and stitched a crucial partnership of 22 runs for the last wicket as well.

The popular Punjabi singer and actor Ammy Virk was fantastic to play Balwinder Sandhu, and his emotional part of the film was heart touching for the audience as well.

10. Syed Kirmani – Sahil Khattar

The talented wicket keeper was impressive with his catching and stumping and stumping skills which helped the team to dismiss key batters during crucial moments. In the tournament, he scored 61 runs and effected 13 dismissals.

The Youtube Star Sahil Khattar played the role of Syed Kirmani effortlessly, with his already bald look also helping as well.

11. Ravi Shastri – Dhairya Karwa

Ravi Shastri is a very popular sportsperson of the country. He is widely known for his stint as a coach for the Indian team in the last few years. He has been a terrific player in FC as well as for the national team. Shastri scored 40 runs and scalped 4 wickets.

Dhairya Karwa is a newbie to bollywood and has come from Jaipur, Rajasthan. He came to Mumbai to pursue his MBA, but acting chances came on his way and he decided to stay.

12. Kirti Azad – Dinker Sharma

The spinner Kirti Azad featured in 3 matches of the 1983 World Cup. He picked up an important wicket of Ian Botham in the semi final of the tournament, which opened doors for the team reaching the finals.

Dinker Sharma, who was a part of Delhi Crime web series in 2019 as well, essayed the role of Kirti Azad.

13. Dilip Vengasarkar – Adinath Kothare

The talented batter was touted to be the one of the finest performers for the Indian team in the 1983 World Cup. But, the deadly ball from West Indies pacer Marshal Malcolm hit him in the chin, and the doctor advised the player to not be a part of the tournament. He played only 2 matches and scored 37 runs.

The Marathi actor Adinath Kothare, who is a producer and a director played the role of top order batter. In his short role, he was effective as well.

14. Sunil Walson – R Badree

Sunil Walson is the only player from the 14 man squad to not feature in any of the games in the 1983 World Cup. He was in the team for his left arm fast medium fast bowling. His role was played by R. Badree, who was seen in the The Forgotten Army – Azaadi ke liye show in 2020.
