Ravi Ashwin ENG vs IND Test: In a big news update, India’s senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is yet to fly to England for the fifth and final rescheduled Test match starting from 1 July, 2022 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. Incidentally, the visitors left early last year after a massive Covid-19 outbreak in their camp and could not play the final Test match of the five-match Test series where India have a 2-1 lead. The Men in Blue are also scheduled to play as many as 3 T20Is and 3 ODIs in England.
The breaking news development is that Ravichandran Ashwin has tested for COVID-19 ahead of the England vs India 5th Test match and this is the major reason that he is yet to travel from India to England. The first batch of Indian players reached United Kingdom (UK) on 16 June, 2022 and skipper Rohit Sharma travelled to England on the following day. Team India’s head coach Rahul Dravid alongside Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer reached England after completing five-match T20I series against South Africa at home.
It has been understood that Ashwin is currently under isolation and will only join the rest of the India squad in England after following all the necessary Covid-19 protocols. However, it is confirmed that the right-arm off spinner will not be available for India’s four-day warm up match against Leicestershire starting from 24 June, 2022 (Friday).
“Ashwin hasn’t travelled with the squad to UK as he has tested positive for Covid-19 before departure,” a BCCI source told PTI.
“But we are hopeful that he will recover well in time before the Test match starts on July 1. However he might miss the practice game against Leicestershire,” the source added.
