Highest Chase in IPL – High scoring run chases are always tricky as there’s no breathing space for the batters since they’re required to accelerate right from ball one. A successful high chase is mostly a result of multiple player contributions rather than individual brilliance.
Highest Chase in IPL
Only 13 times 200-plus scores have been chased down in IPL successfully since its exception which makes it rare. Now let’s take a look at the highest chases in IPL.
Here’s a list of the highest chase in IPL
Score | Team | Opponent | Year |
226/6 | RR | KXIP | 2020 |
219/6 | MI | CSK | 2021 |

211/4 | KXIP | SRH | 2014 |
1. 226/6, RR vs KXIP 2020
This one should rank possibly among the top matches in IPL history. In a flat deck with small boundaries at Sharjah, KXIP posted a daunting total of 223 from 20 overs courtesy of a Mayank Agarwal century. RR got off to a good start with fifties from Smith and Samson. With the score at 100/2 from 9 overs, Tewatia was promoted up the order as a pinch hitter but he struggled to get going scoring only 5 from his first 13 balls. Just when everyone thought the game was over, Tewatia redeemed himself by hitting six sixes off the last 8 balls and eventually winning the game for RR.
2. 219/6, MI vs CSK 2021
Mumbai Indians had never successfully chased down a target of over 200 runs until this match but history was about to change. Put in to bat first, CSK racked up a huge total of 218 with half centuries from du Plessis, Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu. MI got off to a good start with thirties from openers de Kock and Rohit but soon lost momentum with some quick wickets. Then Pollard, the usual nemesis of CSK hit a 34 ball 87 to lead MI to their first ever successful chase of a target over 200.
3. 217/7, RR vs DC 2008
This was the first instance of a 200 run target being chased down successfully in IPL. Andrew Symonds scored a memorable 117 off 53 balls helping Deccan Chargers to a total of 214/5 before it was chased down by RR thanks to Graeme Smith’s 71 and Yusuf Pathan’s 64.
4. 214/3, DD vs GL 2017
Rishabh Pant showed some glimpses of his world beating talent in this game scoring a 43 ball 97 chasing a steep target of 209 set by Gujarat Lions. Samson too scored a 31 ball 61 as an opener to set up the chase for Delhi Daredevils.
5. 211/4, KXIP vs SRH 2014
Kings XI Punjab of 2014 had an explosive batting lineup consisting of Sehwag, Saha, Maxwell, Miller, Vohra and Bailey and it was no surprise they chased down this total. Almost every batter contributed to the victory with five batters crossing the 20 run mark and only Saha scoring a fifty.
