The series between India and Sri Lanka will see young talents representing their respective teams and making their case for the senior national team. The Sri Lanka are trying to build their team from the scratch. In their last tour in England, they lost the ODI as well as T20I series. The team’s bowling unit is a little inexperienced and batters have not performed well. There is an another hurdle that has come up for the home team.
The captain of the Sri Lanka limited-overs team Kusal Perera has been ruled out of the series against India due to injury concerns. The all-rounder Dasun Shanaka has been appointed as the captain of the team.
It is said that the wicket-keeper batsman sustained a shoulder injury during the last series against England. The team’s doctor has said that he is out for a minimum of six weeks, which mean he will miss the whole series against India which is scheduled for 18 July-29 July comprising of 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. The team’s top-order will certainly be second string in the absence of Gunathilaka, Mendis, and Dickwella who have been suspended by Sri Lanka Cricket for breaching the bio-bubble.
D Padikkal: The top-order batsman from Karnataka has possibly been the most consistent run-scorer in the domestic cricket and IPL combined and can certainly get a chance to make his debut.
R Gaikwad: Another opener who has been impressive for CSK scored a half-century in the recent intra-squad match and will surely be on radar of the team management.
K Gowtham: The experienced player was a net bowler for the team in the recent few test series and with a fine track record of contributing with the bat as well is in line for making his Indian debut in the T20 format.
