IPL 2021 Auction: High Base Price Players who might go Unsold

List of players who have registered for the upcoming IPL Auction 2021 was officially declared last week. And with that, speculations have well and truly began about some of the high-profile names who might go for plenty come D-day. But there are also some names in the list that may or may not get a buyer due to various reasons. We will take a look at some of those big names from the higher brackets.

Kedar Jadhav

A late bloomer at the international level in his career, Kedar Jadhav struggled to get any rhythm during last year’s edition. As a result of that he was released by a franchise that is usually skeptical of changes – Chennai Super Kings. He will again enter this year’s auction as one of the marquee players with a base price of INR 2 Cr. His performances in recently concluded SMAT were not that bad but teams still might want to go ahead with some young Indian options rather than a player who is not regularly playing competitive cricket.

IPL 2021 Auction: 5 Indian Players who can start bidding war

Tom Curran

This English all-rounder played for Rajasthan Royals last season but he was not at his best during the course of the season. Although his style of bowling was suited to UAE pitches but he may find it very difficult to go up notches on generally good batting pitches in India. He has registered for the auction in INR 1.5 Cr category. This price tag may not go well with many franchises who are short on funds this year as there are many high-quality options available in overseas pace-bowling pool.

Adam Lyth

One of the major surprises from this year’s marquee pool was of Adam Lyth. Although he has been decent with Multan Sultans in PSL for couple of years but his name in INR 1.5 Cr base price is a huge gamble. Probably, he may have been forced to go with that base keeping in mind his county contracts in the summer. But looking at this from franchises’ point of views, they may not find Adam Lyth attractive at all and there are high chances that he may remain ‘unsold’ this year.

IPL Auction 2021: 5 Overseas Players who can start bidding war

Mitchell Swepson

Overseas spinners have historically found it difficult to get an IPL contract unless you are of Rashid Khan’s quality, of course. After an impressive run in Sheffield Shield this year, Mitchell Swepson was called back into national setup. He played the T20I series against India last year and did reasonably well. He will go under the hammer for IPL 2021 Auction with a base price of INR 1.5 Cr but would feel ‘lucky’ if he gets a bid. In this case, questions are not mainly about talent but whether teams are willingly to occupy an overseas spot with spinners.

Adil Rashid

An established leg-spinner at International circuit – Adil Rashid has registered himself in INR 1.5 Cr category for this year’s auction. With plenty of domestic options available, franchises are prepared to roll the dice on young options than an overseas quality. Adil Rashid would have had better chances of getting picked if it was a mega auction but in smaller pool like this year, he is likely to go ‘unsold’. Most of the teams are having their spin departments all settled and are not likely to bid for this Englishman.

Hanuma Vihari

Hero of India’s ‘Sydney escape’ – Hanuma Vihari wasn’t picked up by any of the teams in last year’s auction and he will be again trying his luck for this year. An excellent long form batsman but teams would find his base price of INR 1 Cr on the higher side. Although he has played IPL cricket in the past but in recent years, he has materialized himself into a proper first-class batsman’s image. With plenty of attacking young options available from SMAT at lower prices, franchises may refrain from bidding for Hanuma Vihari.
