IPL 2022 Start Date: In a big breaking news, the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will kickstart from 27 March, 2022 and the tournament is most likely to take place in India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had earlier planned to start the cash-rich T20 league in April, however, looking at the Covid-19 pandemic situation, those plans seem to be changed as of now. Also, the IPL mega auction 2022 is scheduled to be held on 12 and 13 February in Bengaluru.

The BCCI is currently planning to hold the entire Indian Premier League 2022 edition together in Mumbai and Pune possibly from 27 March. As per a report by ANI, the Wankhede Stadium, Cricket Club of India (CCI), DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and Pune are likely to be the venues for this year’s IPL. The BCCI recently hosted a meeting with all the team owners in order to discuss the possible venues which included Mumbai-Pune, UAE and South Africa as the considerable options.

“I am delighted to confirm that the 15th season of the IPL will start in the last week of March and will run until May end,” said BCCI secretary Jay Shah.

It is also being understood that UAE as a venue has been rejected by most of the franchises as the dew factor could have once again played a deciding factor in the result of a match. At this moment, the BCCI is contemplating to host the entire IPL 2022 in Maharashtra with the first game set to be held in Mumbai and the final decision will take place on 20 February.

IPL Mega Auction 2022

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will consist a total of 10 teams with Ahmedabad and Lucknow being the two new IPL franchises. It has now been confirmed that a total of 1214 players have been included in the initial mega auction list. A total of 896 Indian cricketers and 318 overseas players are part of this list which comprises of 270 capped, 903 uncapped and 41 players from the Associate nations namely Oman, UAE, Scotland, Netherlands and Nepal.

The likes of Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Quinton de Kock, David Warner and Mitchell Marsh are some of the noticeable overseas players who have listed their base price worth INR 2 Crore while some important Indian cricketers with the same price are Devdutt Padikkal, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Chahar and Ishan Kishan. In an astonishing revelation, star overseas players namely Mitchell Starc, Chris Gayle, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran and Chris Woakes will not be part of IPL 2022.
