The Indian team have found new heroes, especially in the test format. Whenever the team is in trouble, at overseas or the homes conditions, few of the players have helped the team to recover nicely. In the England series, it was Shardul Thakur who provided all round contributions. In this test match, the wicket keeper Wriddhiman Saha, who had neck issues hit a half century to take the lead close to 300 runs.
The Indian team were terrific in their performances in the 3rd session to score 67 runs without any fall of wicket. The batters, Wridddhiman Saha and Axar Patel batted cautiously in the first 30 minutes, and then scored runs in a brisk manner to invite the New Zealand team to chase down the target of 284 runs in the final few overs of the Day 4’s play. The spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was impressive to take the wicket of Will Young in the 3rd over of the NZ 2nd innings.

The New Zealand bowlers couldn’t do much to keep both the batters quiet and deny them singles them or doubles. This mindset caused the partnership to grow and increase the lead of the home team and putting pressure on the New Zealand team.
After a confidence boosting 3rd session of Day 4, India are looking a confident side to defend the target of 284 runs. The spinners like Ashwin and Axar Patel are likely to play an important role on a Day 5 pitch, which is expected to provide them a fine purchase.
