The Delhi Capitals have been playing a terrific brand of cricket for the past 2 years. In the last season, they reached the finals of the tournament under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer. During the series against England, Iyer sustained a shoulder injury and underwent surgery, and was deemed as unavailable for the rest of the IPL. The wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been leading the side well in this season and the team has 5 wins in 7 matches. The team’s top-order and bowling performance has been top-notch and would look to continue the same performance.
The middle-order of the Delhi Capitals from the past few seasons due to their inconsistency to contribute in each match of the season. The openers of the team, Dhawan and Shaw have been terrific in 2020 as well as the 2021 season. Then, Steve Smith has scored 80 runs in 3 innings, but his slow-paced innings sometimes have an effect in the small grounds and a belter pitch. The Motera Stadium is a big ground and Smith do not have the extensive capability to hit big sixes. He might be replaced by the England batsman Sam Billings or South African pace bowler Anrich Nortje who has not featured in this IPL.
Rabada hasn’t been upto his strengths in this season & might have to give away to Anrich Nortje, who can be a good bowler in these conditions. While, Shimron Hetmyer got the opportunity in the last to last game, where he scored a quickfire 50 while chasing. He has to be given the chance to perform, as he is a destructive batsman and can take the score from a low to a decent high.
Steve Smith has got the chances, but has failed a couple of times, he should make way for Sam Billings or DC should bring in Nortje in place of him, as Delhi’s batting lineup is deep, and they haven’t even used Stoinis as a batter until now.
Stoinis, Hetmyer, Rabada, Nortje should be the ideal four overseas players for Delhi to play in today’s game.
Overseas players for DC (Predicted): M Stonis, S Hetmyer, K Rabada, A Nortje
