When is next IPL auction? How many players can teams retain in mega IPL auction?

The Indian Premier League 2021 which was postponed due to pandemic will soon begin its second phase from 19 September in UAE. The BCCI has made sure that the tournament receives participation from maximum foreign to maintain the brand value. But, the optimism is high for IPL 2022 due to decreasing number of covid cases. Now, there are reports that the BCCI is thinking to add 2 new teams from next season of IPL. The mega auctions are set to happen, and it is expected that each franchises can retain upto maximum 3 Indian players and rest of them will be in the auction pool.

When is next IPL auction?

A tender document is said to be brought out in August for introducing 2 new teams in the IPL. In the October month, after the mandatory checks, the bids will be opened. Then, in the month of December, the mega auctions are set to happen.

It is learnt that the RP Sanjiv Goenka group, Adani group, and Torrent which are based out of Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Gujarat respectively are interested in bidding for floating their franchise teams into the IPL. The RP Sanjiv Goenka group previously owned the Pune based franchise that played in IPL in 2016 and 2017.

Player Retention and Purse amount in mega IPL Auction?

The salary purse for the each team is set to be increased in the mega IPL Auction from Rs. 85 Crore to Rs. 90 Crore. If the 10 teams will be a part of the auction, this will mean adding 50 crore to the total auction pool. It is mandatory rule for the franchises to spend 75% of the alloted purse amount.

The player retention policies, have been changed from this year. Each franchises will be allowed to retain 4 players, in which the combination may be 3 Indian and 1 overseas player, or 2 Indian and 2 overseas players. Till now, the salary deduction for three players in form of Rs. 15 Cr, 11 Cr, and 7 Cr.
