Who Is Arzan Nagwaswalla? Gujarat Left-Arm Pacer Selected As Standby Player In Team India For WTC Final

Arzan Nagwaswalla: Virat Kohli will be leading the 20-man Indian squad in the inaugural World Test Championship final against New Zealand and the subsequent five-match Test series against hosts England. Along with the usual suspects, the Indian team selection committee have picked up few names out of obscurity. Gujarat’s left-arm pacer Arzan Nagwaswalla is one of the shocking names in the Indian team, but whether he gets the game or not, which is highly unlikely, he is in the history books already.

Who Is Arzan Nagwaswalla?

Born on October 17, 1997, Arzan Nagwaswalla hails from Surat, Gujarat. The 23-year-old made his List A debut for his state in the 2017-18 edition of Vijay Hazare Trophy. And after making all the right noise, Nagwaswalla got his big break when he was picked up for Gujarat’s Ranji Trophy for the 2018-19 season and made his domestic T20 debut in Syed Mushtaq Trophy the same season. What’s more interesting is the fact that Nagwaswalla is yet to feature in the IPL which makes his selection in the Indian team all more baffling and surprsing.

Another interesting fact about Arzan Nagwaswalla is that he hails from the prestigious Parsi community. Apparently, he is the first Parsi to play in Ranji Trophy since 1995 and the first male Indian player to be selected in the Indian team since Farokh Engineer played his last Test for India in 1975. That is quite staggering.
