Venue: Old Hararians Sports Club, Harare

The Background

March 20, 2018, has another riveting contest in-store as Afghanistan in a bid to keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive against the UAE. Here’s a complete analysis of When and Where to watch the fixtures.

Pitch & Weather Conditions:

With the Pitch at the Old, Hararians has been on the slower side, overcast conditions might just help the fast bowlers early on in the innings.

Analyzing the teams and the marquee players to watch out for:

Afghanistan

Afghanistan who had come into the tournament after a resounding win over the Windies in the warm-up fixture received a serious jolt to their aspirations of qualifying for the 2019 showpiece event in England after being comprehensively beaten by Scotland and then a team who they’ve beaten in five straight bilateral series, Zimbabwe in a nail-biting encounter.

That Afghanistan is still in the reckoning is basically due to Nepal who beat Hong Kong in their final league-stage encounter. Nepal’s win over Hong Kong meant Afghanistan qualified int the super-six stage on behest of a superior run-rate. They entered the super-six stage with zero points and on the back of a compelling win compelling win against the Windies, now sit with two points.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammad Nabi, and Rashid Khan were all among wickets as the Afghans restricted Windies to 8-197. Rahmat Shah led their chase with a pristine 68 and he would once again hold key against the UAE. Asghar Stanikzai, their regular captain is also expected to make his comeback in the all-important encounter.

Probable XI

Mohammad Nabi, Samiullah Shenwari, Shapoor Zadran, Javed Ahmadi, Gulbadin Naib, Mohammad Shahzad (wk), Najibullah Zadran, Rahmat Shah, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Rashid Khan (c), Mujeeb Ur Rahman

UAE:

While UAE has been ably led by Rohan Mustafa, their bowling has been a real source of concern. Mustafa picked up four wickets in the previous encounter against Scotland, but he did not get much support from the other end as Scotland posted a mammoth 6-322.

While their new-ball bowlers in Naveed and Zahoor Khan have conceded in excess of eight runs per over, the lack of form of Afghanistan’s top-order might just give them the much-required fillip in a bid to improve their chances.

Probable XI:

Rohan Mustafa (c), Adnan Mufti, Ahmed Raza,  Ashfaq Ahmed, Chirag Suri, Imran Haider, Mohammad Boota (WK), Mohammad Naveed, Muhammad Usman,  Shaiman Anwar, Zahoor Khan
