Mumbai Indians – Reliance Industries Reliance Industries bought Mumbai Indians back in 2008 for a record amount of $111.9 million. Mukesh Ambani and Wife Nita Ambani are known to run the franchise. However, it belongs to the Reliance Industries and not a particular Ambani family member. The company, though, is owned by Mukesh Ambani itself. 2. Delhi Capitals – JSW and GMR Group GMR Group bought the franchise for $84 million back in 2008. However, in 2018, the GMR Group sold 50% of the stakes to JSW Group for $73 million. The franchise was then renamed from Delhi Daredevils to Delhi Capitals. Grandhi Kiran Kumar is the CEO of the GMR Group while Parth Jindal from the JSW Group mainly manages the Delhi Capitals. 3. Rajasthan Royals – Emerging Media Emerging Media owns Rajasthan Royals (65%), which is headed by Manoj Badale. RedBird Capitals (15%) and Lachlan Murdoch (13%) are the other two partners. It was in 2015 that the ownership of the franchise was passed on to Emerging Media. Badale is considered the head of the franchise as he holds majority stocks. 4. Kolkata Knight Riders - Red Chillies Entertainment and Mehta Group The Kolkata franchise is owned by Red Chillies Entertainment (55%), which is headed by Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. The Mehta Group also holds 45% of the stocks, owned by Jay Mehta and his wife, former Bollywood star Juhi Chawla. 5. Punjab Kings - Dabur Group, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta Dabur Group’s Mohit Burman (46%) owns Punjab Kings while Wadia Group’s Ness Wadia (23%), Bollywood star Preity Zinta (23%), Dey & Dey Group’s Saptarshi Dey and Karan Paul are the other stakeholders. This is the same group that bought the franchise back in 2008 as well. 6. Lucknow Super Giants – RPSG Group Lucknow Super Giants in one among the two new franchises added in IPL 2022. Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group won the bid to own the franchise at a record amount of INR 7090 Crore. Goenka previously owned the Rising Pune Super Giants as well and is one of the leading businessmen of India. 7. Gujarat Titans – CVC Capitals Gujarat Titans, champions of IPL 2022, playing their very first season, is owned by CVC Capitals. The British Private Equity and investment advisory firm won the rights to own the franchise with a bid of INR 5625 Crore. John Clarke is the managing partner and CEO of CVC Capitals. 8. Sunrisers Hyderabad – Sun Group Sunrisers Hyderabad is owned by Sun Group. It was in 2013 that Kalanithi Maran, head of the Sun Group, bought the franchise for around $11 million. The Sun Group is popular for their Sun TV Network. Kalanithi’s daughter Kaviya Maran is also an active member in the administration of the franchise, is often seen cheering the team and present during auctions. 9. Royal Challengers Bangalore – United Spirits Royal Challengers Bangalore is owned by United Spirits Ltd, a beverage company. The then major stakeholder in the company, Vijay Mallya, bought the franchise in 2008 for $111.6 million. The franchise, though, is still owned by United Spirits with Prathmesh Mishra as the CEO of Royal Challengers Bangalore. 10. Chennai Super Kings – India Cements Chennai Super Kings franchise was originally sold to India Cements back in 2008. India Cements still holds the majority stakes to this date and they are referred to as the owners of the franchise.
