IPL 2022 Venue: South Africa Set to host IPL 2022? Here’s the update

IPL 2022 Venue: In a big news update, South Africa have come forward and offered the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that they will like to host the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League. At this moment, the BCCI is contemplating to host the cash-rich T20 league in the last week of March, 2022. It has also been confirmed that the IPL 2022 mega auction will take place on 12 and 13 February, possibly in Bengaluru.

According to multiple media reports, Cricket South (CSA) has come up with a proposal for BCCI that hosting the entire IPL 2022 will be a quite cheaper and viable option as compared to the UAE where the tournament was played last year. CSA and BCCI are reportedly mulling over venues that will involve minimum air travel and cutting down on the expenses for the IPL franchises. It is also being understood that CSA has already clarified that all the expenses for both the BCCI and IPL teams will be quite less as compared to UAE where they were highly charged due to the heavy tourist involvement mainly for the Dubai Expo.
Cricket South Africa have reportedly proposes to host the Indian Premier League 2022 edition in four centres around Johannesburg with most of the matches being played at the Wanderers Stadium, Centurion Park in Pretoria, Willowmoore Park in Benoni and Senwes Cricket Stadium in Potchefstroom. All these international cricket grounds are in driving distance from one another while all the 10 IPL teams will have their bubbles created out of Johannesburg.

CSA has also given BCCI the offer to host a part of IPL 2022 at the Newlands in Cape Town and Paarl ground as this year the T20 tournament will comprise of as many as 74 matches. Incidentally, the second edition of the Indian Premier League was also hosted successfully in South Africa in 2009.

IPL Start Date
As of now, the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is very much likely to start from 27 March, 2022 with the entire tournament set to be played in Maharashtra while the first match is scheduled to be held in Mumbai. However, the BCCI will reportedly take a final call on the IPL 2022 venue on 20 February.
