IPL Venue: In a big breaking development, the upcoming 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will reportedly take place in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will be a long tournament comprising a total of 10 teams with the introduction of the two new franchises namely Ahmedabad and Lucknow. The exciting T20 competition is likely to kickstart in the last week of March while the IPL mega auction 2022 is scheduled to be held on 12 and 13 February, possibly in Bengaluru.
According to a recent report by Times of India, the league stage matches of Indian Premier League 2022 will take place in Maharashtra while the playoffs will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The report also stated that the league matches of the cash-rich T20 league might be played at the Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium in Cricket Club of India, the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Gahunje, near Pune.
“As of now, the Board is mulling organising the league stage in Maharashtra, and the playoffs in Ahmedabad,” a source was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
Another big news mentioned in the report was that the state authorities are very much likely to allow crowds in IPL 2022. However, if the Covid-19 positive cases are constantly decreasing during the time of IPL, only then spectators will be allowed in the stadiums.
“If the number of positive cases aren’t high around that time, the state government authorities are likely to allow around 25% capacity crowds for this year’s IPL,” added the source.
Earlier last week, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary officially announced that the 2022 edition of the IPL is scheduled to be held in the last week of March with India being the most likely venue. It is being learnt that the much-awaited IPL 2022 is likely to kickstart from 27 March with the opening encounter to be played in Mumbai.
