After the home series against New Zealand and England were postponed/cancelled, the Pakistan cricket is trying to get on track in the white ball cricket, especially format. Both the international series were for the competitive match practice for the T20 World Cup scheduled to be started from Mid October. All the top cricketers from the country, including the players named in the World Cup are featuring in the National T20 Cup, which is a premier tournament in Pakistan Cricket. These series also worked as shortlisting 1-2 players, in the case any injury issue arrives, and the management having time until 10th October to send their updated teams.
The experience can always play a part in the big tournaments like the ICC T20 World Cup. The middle order batsman and a handy bowler, Shoaib Malik is one such example. He has played 116 T20Is and has 7534 runs at an average of 31.13, and also has 28 wickets to his name. When the original squad was announced, Shoaib Malik was not included due to his bad form in recent international matches and the CPL 2021.
Shoaib Malik’s form has been terrific in the National T20 Cup 2021, and has amassed 225 runs at an average of 75. With his contribution, the team sealed the semifinal spots in the points table. The fine performances in the tournament, might have forced the selectors to include the veteran cricketer for the ICC T20 World Cup in place of Sohaib Maqsood, who has a back injury.
The selectors have kept the performances of National T20 Cup 2021 as their priority for preparing the final squad of Pakistan team for the T20 World Cup. Yesterday, it was announced that three players, Azam Khan, Khusdil Shah, and Mohammad Hasnain will not be part of the squad, and Haider Ali, Sarfaraz Ahmed and Fakhar Zaman have been named as their replacement. Now with the addition of Shoaib Malik in place of Sohaib Maqsood, the team looks quite experienced to perform well in the tournament.
