This is the 32nd match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season and also the second match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul won the toss and he elected to bowl first.

Punjab’s captain KL Rahul shocked everyone when he announced that veteran big-hitting batsman Chris Gayle is not part of the playing XI in today’s IPL match against Rajasthan Royals. Punjab Kings have went ahead with as many as three debutants in Adil Rashid, Ishan Porel and Aiden Markram. It will be interesting to see their batting line-up in the absence of the Universe Boss who was absolutely fit and available for this match.

“We’ll bowl first. It’s a no brainer, a fresh wicket with grass on. We don’t know how it will play and I prefer chasing. I was just telling a few people in the dressing room that it just felt like yesterday that we were playing IPL 2020. We have a lot that we’ve learnt from last year. We are all professionals and we have tried hard in the heat to prefer ourselves. Pooran, Markram, Rashid and Allen are our overseas players. Unfortunately Chris Gayle misses out and Aiden has been in good form coming into our setup from Sri Lanka,” said Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul at the toss.
