Chris Woakes has been the talk of the town as he put on an impressive display in the England vs India Test match. Saving England after 5 wickets and outscoring India on his own made him the hottest topic to talk about.

“It has been a frustrating summer so far, missing quite a bit of cricket. But it’s all so sweet today… I was over the moon to get the call to be back in the squad. I could never really have dreamt of scoring a hundred in my comeback Test.” Woakes had to say when asked about his hamstring injury.

This incredible performance led many people comparing Chirs Woakes to Ben Stokes. The respected and praised all round has been out of the game due to legal matters. “Ben is a huge part of this squad and he was missed not being here this week but what it did do was create an opportunity for Chris to perform.” Captain Joe Root had this to say on the matter.

Knowing the huge shoes he has to fill Chris said. “Coming in place of Stokes, these are big shoes to fill. But you try not to think about that – I don’t try to play like him, I play like myself, try to do my job for the team, and thankfully I’ve done that so far.”

Woakes proved his worth when he came in to bat after England was held at 131 for five. Along with Jonny Bairstow, the pair were able to rack up 189 runs. This pair was the ray of light England needed and were able to give the hosts a 250 run lead over India. Chris Woakes was able to stay unbeaten with 120 runs at the end which was way more than the entire Indian team could score.
