A DIFFERENT CHALLENGE FOR ENGLAND

England batsman Joe Root feels that India present a different challenge to them than all of their recent opponents (Australia included). The English team will have to be at their best to beat the Virat Kohli-led squad in the three-match ODI series beginning today, Thursday, July 12 at Trent Bridge, England.

Last month, England had beaten Australia with 5-0 in the ODI series.

INDIA IS AT IT’S BEST

“We have played some really good cricket in one day format and India are right up there as ‘one of the best’ one-day sides in the world right now. They present different challenges to the ones we have faced in recent but we know that if we play to our full capacity, keep learning and improving in our game, we will be a difficult side to get defeated”, he added.

For Root, this series holds foremost importance.

“I completely understood their decision. It wouldn’t have been an easy option for them to make but that is part and parcel of having an extremely powerful squad. You have to accept that. It is always difficult being left out and you never approve that as a player.”.

“But one thing is for sure. It is great to see Ben Stokes back to somewhere near fully fit. He is such a big treasure to all three teams” he said.

THIS SERIES DECIDES THE WORLD CUP

This series is built up as a game of the two best ODI sides who are both looking at next year’s World Cup.
Trent Bridge is a favourite place for English batsmen who have scored 400-plus here twice.

I think it is dangerous to start thinking too much (in terms of predicting high scores). It might be the case, or it might not, but we will try to win this series and do everything we can to come out of victorious, he said.

INDIAN BOWLERS ARE OUTSTANDING

India are in a place where they have been doing in that (bowling) department as well. Even if the strikers aren’t able to perform well, we still have to play well. They will pose different challenges to us altogether,” Root added.
